Travel by train from Innsbruck to Trento for ultra scenic views
Trento straddles the glacial Adige river valley and is a gateway to the Dolomite Mountains.
The train from Innsbruck to Trento took 2.7 hours and cost 32Euros.
- NSInternational – Railjet RJ87 train: 15:24 Innsbruck Hbf → 18:02 Trento
- The onboard bar and restaurant area yielded the best view of the passing mountains and villages.
- I spent the entire journey there, enjoying a couple of beers and a pancake with wild berry coulis

Various ski resorts are within 30mins by bus from Trento.
- Mound Bordone – Smallest and closest with a couple of very promising hotels with spas
- Alpine Mugon Hotel – look at the spa and room views
- Hotel Norge – less appealing design but again great views and spa

- Adalo – Larger resort and more expensive looking
- Madonna di Campiglio – Another grand ski resort
Back in Trento, I found myself spending the day working at the foot of the awesome ( literally ) cable car.
There is an excellent terrace café there, at the cable car station:
- Bar Funivia [https://maps.app.goo.gl/BQ4HXV9XeWVgahwS6] with uninterrupted views and an excellent beer and coffee selection.
The small cable car 🚠 which flies up high over the Adige valley is well worth the 5Euros return trip.
At the summit you can breath the vastness from a viewing platform and then enjoy a 10 minute walk to the peaceful village of Sardagna.
Sardagna is where I felt so serene that I sat on a bench reading a book about for 2 hours. A promising looking restaurant there ( Osteria San Rocco ) was not open until Thursday evening.

3 Bars and restaurants I enjoyed in Trento
- Al Pozzo 8 – In an unattractive modern building but a very decent experience with friendly service and fresh food, the prawn risotto was special
- Pizza Bella ‘Mbriana Trento – Top pizza but I found the lighting a bit too bright, a common complaint of mine having lived in Amsterdam
- Bar Uva e Menta – Slightly ‘alt’ bar playing 90s trip hop with a varied crowd and fine to be alone there.
